I realize this is somewhat of an old post, but hopefully it reaches you. I have one question/comment about some of the scans--although I'm basing this primarily off of the scan of W.E.B. Du Bois's Black Reconstruction, which is a BLC/Wellesley contribution, it seems to apply to a large portion of the BLC scans.
See https://archive.org/details/blackreconstruc00dubo
Basically, the PDF version is full-color and very large. In a way it's nice that it retains the look of an old, oxidized page, but for portability/readability on digital devices I would personally prefer a smaller file, 2-color/black & white.
I have actually downloaded the Black Reconstruction JP2 files and converted them to black & white PNGs, and I would be happy to send these to you or someone else who can make them into an OCR'd PDF. (When I use the software I have, the file is still monstrously large. I know that commercial packages are better at optimizing file size.) If this is possible or of interest, please let me know and we can find a way to transfer the files.
Otherwise, I just mention it to influence future decisions about scans.
Best,
JM
