The Photography Incunabula Collection at the Getty Research Institute

Materials from the Research Library, Getty Research Institute located in Los Angeles, CA. The Photography Incunabula Collection at the Getty Research Institute includes books from the 1840s through the 1870s, which are illustrated primarily with salted paper prints or albumen prints. These were the first photographic media viable for publication purposes yet the production of such books was very labor-intensive: the images were printed individually from paper or glass negatives and then mounted ...
