Obsolescence of electromechanical instruments and navigation sensors is one of the main reasons for new avionics development in military training aircraft upgrade programs. The growing requirements for advanced trainers in the role of lead-in-fighter aircraft push the development of integrated avionics system where cockpit displays mission computer solid-state navigation sensors communication transceivers and flight data recorders are extensively employed. Unrestricted Warfare is neither a revolution in military thought nor an executable doctrine for future warfare, but a collection of tactics, techniques, and procedures that have been used throughout history and will continue to be used by future adversaries. As with all military thought, a wide variety of political, historical, and economic factors guided the development of air doctrines in the period between the First and Second World Wars. Yet standing above all other influences was a revulsion against the mud and despair of the trenches. Thus, it is not surprising that an Italian senior officer, Giulio Douhet, would argue that airpower could prevent the repetition of a war that had cost Italy more than 400,000 dead. In terms of the first...

A procedure for the development of a simple boundary layer turbulence model to account for different physical effects is described; the method is applied here to produce models for both pressure gradient and mainstream turbulence effects. Asymptotic theory is used to isolate the leading terms in an expansion for the mean velocity profile for high Reynolds numbers for both the inner and outer regions of a nominally steady two-dimensional boundary layer. The velocity profile in the outer layer...

Divergence experienced during rolling maneuvers has frequently been referred to as inertial coupling. This leads to a misconception of the problems involved. The divergence experienced during rolling maneuvers is complex because it involves not only inertial properties, but aerodynamic ones as well. The material in this chapter is intended to offer a physical explanation of the more important causes of roll coupling. Coupling results when a disturbance about one aircraft axis causes a...

The conical pressure rise theory for separated flows, which was developed by the first author in Ref. 1, has been adapted for calculating axi-symmetric body base pressure in this technical note. The computation complexity of the theory has been reduced by the provision of auxiliary curves, plotted as Figures 2 to 21. Furthermore, several typical solutions for steady flow have been calculated for M=1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4, and 5 in order to check the theory with some published experimental results.

Results show that predictive models for the protective capacity of hearing protection should account for variability in insertion loss, depending on the incident sound pressure level.
